Tech companies in Asia are competing to become the leading Super App in the region. In April 2021, Lazada launched its ride-hailing services in Singapore. AirAsia invested heavily in digital transformation and there are rumors that AirAsia is considering raising US$300 Million for its new digital business units. Shopee extended its offerings to cover digital payments (ShopeePay & SPayLater) as well as food delivery services (ShopeeFood).
What do you think of the rising number of Super Apps in the region? Is this a big win for consumers through diverse offerings in an integrated platform or does it actually reduce the competitiveness and innovation of startups in the region?
