In an industry known for rapid innovation and digital transformation, it’s easy to assume that competitive compensation alone is enough to attract and retain top tech talent. However, our latest Tech Talent Confidence Index, developed in collaboration with Populix, reveals a more nuanced picture of how Indonesia’s tech professionals view their well-being, workplace environment, and compensation.

Salary Satisfaction Is High—But Not the Whole Story
Over 50% of respondents believe their current compensation is already appropriate, and a large portion perceive tech salaries to be on par or slightly higher than other industries. This indicates that, at least on paper, tech roles in Indonesia offer competitive pay that meets expectations.

Yet, despite this optimism around pay, professionals are still actively seeking higher-paying roles. Why? The answer may lie in what compensation fails to solve: workload and burnout.

Burnout Is a Silent Epidemic
A striking 77% of tech talents report having experienced burnout—a figure that signals deep concerns around work-life balance and mental well-being. Competitive salaries may attract talent, but without a healthy work environment, retaining them becomes increasingly difficult.

Heavy workloads, long hours, and constant pressure to deliver seem to be the underlying drivers. It’s no surprise that many tech professionals, even those content with their current pay, are still looking for greener pastures that offer better support, balance, and a healthier company culture.

What This Means for Employers
As the market matures, tech professionals are no longer just chasing bigger paychecks—they’re prioritizing companies that care about their well-being, flexibility, and sustainable workloads.

To retain top talent, employers must look beyond monetary benefits and build an environment that supports mental health, encourages time-off, and promotes meaningful work-life balance.

Indonesia’s tech landscape continues to evolve, but the takeaway is clear: salary alone is no longer a strong enough hook. Companies that proactively address employee well-being will have the upper hand, not just in recruitment, but in building resilient, loyal, and high-performing teams.
