The centralized legal function supports businesses across the group on corporate, commercial, transactional, land, licensing, regulatory, and contentious matters while enabling the group's continued growth and strategic initiatives.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a Head of Legal to lead the legal function across a diversified group operating in multiple business sectors. The role will oversee end-to-end corporate and commercial legal matters, land and asset transactions, land acquisition, licensing and permits, intellectual property, and litigation, while providing centralized legal support across multiple entities within the group. Leading a team of professionals, this position requires a highly strategic and analytical legal leader who can advise on complex matters while remaining hands-on with execution. Strong stakeholder management is critical, as the role will work closely with multiple business owners, senior leadership, and internal stakeholders with different priorities and working styles.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise business owners, senior management, and group entities on complex corporate, commercial, land, asset, regulatory, litigation, and strategic legal matters.
• Drive legal strategy and execution for land acquisitions, land and asset transactions, investments, and other strategic projects, including legal due diligence, transaction structuring, and risk assessment.
• Lead the group legal function and manage a team, ensuring effective delivery of centralized legal services across multiple companies and business sectors.
• Manage litigation, disputes, claims, and other contentious matters, developing appropriate legal strategies and coordinating with external counsel, authorities, and relevant stakeholders.
• Oversee corporate and commercial legal matters, including corporate actions, governance, contracts, business transactions, restructuring, intellectual property, and strategic initiatives across the group.
• Review legal structures, licences, permits, land documentation, and regulatory requirements supporting the establishment, expansion, and ongoing operations of the group's businesses.
• Strengthen legal governance, processes, and risk management across the group, ensuring appropriate controls while maintaining a commercially responsive and execution-oriented legal function.
• Work closely with multiple business owners, senior executives, government authorities, external counsel, and internal stakeholders to navigate competing interests and drive complex legal matters through to resolution.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Law from a reputable university; an advocate qualification and/or relevant postgraduate qualification would be an advantage.
• Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the maturity and adaptability to navigate multiple business owners, senior executives, government stakeholders, and diverse personalities.
• Extensive knowledge of Indonesian corporate and commercial law, land acquisition and asset transactions, licensing and permits, regulatory matters, and dispute resolution.
• Minimum 15 years of legal experience, with significant leadership experience within real estate, manufacturing, FMCG, retail, land-intensive businesses, or other highly regulated and operationally complex industries.
• Proven experience leading a sizeable legal function and providing centralized legal support across multiple companies, business units, or entities within a diversified group structure.
• Strong analytical and strategic capabilities, with the ability to quickly understand complex issues, identify material risks, and provide clear, direct, and commercially relevant recommendations.
• Strong corporate and transactional experience, particularly involving land and asset acquisitions, legal structuring, due diligence, commercial transactions, licensing, and regulatory requirements.
• Willingness to remain hands-on, with a roll-up-the-sleeves mentality and the ability to move comfortably between high-level strategic advisory and detailed legal execution.
