Principal Backend Architect

We are partnering with a leading technology-driven financial platform in Indonesia, focused on building secure, scalable, and high-performance digital payment infrastructure.

As a Principal / Backend Architect, you will be responsible for shaping the technical foundation of mission-critical systems that power millions of daily transactions. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in designing large-scale distributed systems and influencing engineering direction at an organizational level.

• Architectural Leadership
  Define and drive the long-term architecture of high-scale backend systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and financial-grade security
• System Design & Scalability
  Design distributed systems capable of handling high-throughput, low-latency transactions across multiple services and integrations
• Technical Strategy
  Partner with engineering leadership to define technical roadmaps, evaluate trade-offs, and make high-impact architectural decisions
• Platform & Infrastructure Excellence
  Lead improvements in observability, fault tolerance, and performance optimization across microservices and data layers
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
  Work closely with product, security, and compliance teams to align architecture with business and regulatory requirements
• Mentorship & Influence
  Act as a technical authority across teams, mentoring senior engineers and influencing best practices in system design and engineering culture

Key Requirements:

• 10+ years of experience in backend engineering, with strong exposure to large-scale distributed systems
• Strong experience with backend technologies in Java
• Proven experience in architecting high-availability, high-concurrency systems (e.g., payments, fintech, or platform-scale products)
• Deep understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and data consistency models
• Hands-on expertise with event-driven architecture and messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern DevOps practices
• Strong understanding of system reliability, observability, and performance optimization
• Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels
